Celebrity scofflaws in planning (split from Real celebrity planners)

I don’t know of any celebrity planners but I know of a minor celebrity planning scofflaw. At a former place of employment I saw Ricky Schroeder come in to get building permits after he was caught building accessory structures on one of his properties without them. It was during his cowboy period and he looked like 80 percent of the local guys that came in for permits. During that period he was also caught poaching elk and was ordered to do public service announcements on TV for the Division of Wildlife.

Bette Midler at the 1999 APA conference in NYC was a bore. The B*tch cussed us out. I was perturbed.

    Another celebrity planning scoflaw:

Mr. T. He cut down a bunch of landmark trees on his property in Lake Forest, IL and prompted the Chicago area's first tree preservation ordinance, which was the model for just about every other suburb's ordinance (at least it was in Palatine, back in '88).

If I recall it was 2001 in NYC and it wasn't us she cussed out. If others there help can me out, her hissy fit was directed at then NJ Governor Christine Todd Whitman, sitting immediately to her right.

She said, "If you don't clean up the highways in New Jersey, I will come down to Trenton and personally kick your a$$."

Thank Heaven for Donald Trump I'm glad he is around and he is a true American Hero to me and Let the American Flag fly HIgh and Free !!!
Holy sheeat! There are people that walk this earth who honestly believe that Trump flying a ridiculously oversized flag was a spontaneous expression of patriotism????!!!!
I'm losing faith in humanity once again
People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. The question, “Where are you from?” doesn't lead to anything odd or interesting. They live somewhere near a Gap store, and what else do you need to know? - Garrison Keillor

But Maister, if we don't fly ridiculously large flags, don't the terrorists win? Wouldn't the world be a better place if, say, Osama bin Laden would fly a ridiculously large flag by his cave?

Country Star settles with state over filled-in wetlands, Shania Twain will pay fines over changes to her estate in the Adirondack Park

Country-western star Shania Twain will pay $45,000 in fines and restore a wetland destroyed when she built a recording studio in the Adirondack Park.

Twain's husband and record producer, Robert J. "Mutt" Lange, who is listed as the owner of the 3,039-acre estate, also agreed to get all the necessary construction permits - even if they are four years late.

The couple has been feuding with the Adirondack Park Agency over unauthorized changes made to their Dexter Lake estate in the Franklin County town of Waverly. The APA, the state agency overseeing land use in the park, never issued a permit for work at the compound, which included bulldozing a 105-year-old mansion.

I don't know the details of the case, but I recall that Sandra Bullock was fined a few years back for building out into some protected sand dunes on Tybee Island.

I thought Bette was pissed off about government...more than planners. She was a better speaker than Bobby Jr. at Philly.

How could we have a celebrity scofflaws in planning thread without mentioning the Dave Matthews Band?

Zoning Variances of the Rich and Famous

From the 10/3/2007 New York Times:

In recent years, the village zoning board has turned down Faye Dunaway's request for a swimming pool, on the ground that her property was in wetlands. It has also turned down Itzhak Perlman's request for a tennis court, on the ground that the lot on which he wanted to put it had no primary structure. It granted Paul Simon his pool, but only after three years of wrangling.
All these years the people said he’s actin’ like a kid.

    The Dave Matthews Band?

Is there another tour bus waste dumped onto a bus full of Architecture buffs on a Chicago River cruise story or is that what you're talking about? Hard to top that.

The very one. And there was the DMB, shilling for global warming at the Live Earth concert. "Hey, we support the environment and all, but hey, the tank was overflowing!"

Nah. I doubt they were like, "Hey, we're on a bridge directly above a tour boat! Let's dump our poo on them!" It's just funny.

If it were some other musicians/musical groups...I wouldn't be so kind. I can see a tour bus full of moronic 20-something males thinking it was a good idea.
