    I am el Guapo

My nom de plume is el Guapo and I have been away from this place for well over a year now. Board etiquette suggests one should introduce one's self to the members before returning to the discussions. Or, if one has been away for some time it is polite to bring the membership up to speed on the where’s and why’s of the absence.

I last walked the forums of Cyburbia over a year ago and the details leading up to my decision to depart are not unknown. I didn’t leave with positive thoughts about this place and some of its members. And after much reflection, I realized Cyburbia wasn’t the cause of my stress. I was the cause.

This last year I spent more than a few hours considering what changes I needed to make in myself to allow me to return here, participate, and to do so in a way that is strictly positive. A wise man once said, “We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts we make the world.” That quote captures the essence of this last year of my life. Change is hard, but very possible.

I considered asking Dan to let this nom de plume die a quiet death and to allow me to return under my real name. He was gracious and considerate in his reply. But, el Guapo has a history for better or worse and I shouldn’t run from that history.

I hope I'll see you around.
el Guapo is a former 20 year +/- urban planner (just like you) who thought becoming an attorney was a good life choice.

I found you a new motto from a sign hanging on their wall…"Drink coffee: do stupid things faster and with more energy"

    Welcome back

Hope all with you and yours is going well.

While you've been gone, we've taken to keeping the beer in RJ's wine refrigerator. Grab one - he won't mind a bit.

If el Guapo is back, then I will be spending more time (in the evening, of course, or early morning before the phone calls start) on Cyburbia. You have been missed.

    Welcome back
"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." Ben Franklin

Remember this motto to live by: "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO- HOO what a ride!'"

I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

Good to hear from you again and welcome back, el Guapo.
Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration.

Great to have you back, eG!

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

If there is a Cyburbia user that is deserving of two definite articles, it is eG.

Therefore, I recommend renaming this thread "I am the el Guapo".

The place just hasn't been the same without you, old friend. Good to have you back.

    Welcome back.

Now my comments about Volvos will no longer fall on deaf ears.
You get all squeezed up inside/Like the days were carved in stone/You get all wired up inside/And it's bad to be alone

You can go out, you can take a ride/And when you get out on your own/You get all smoothed out inside/And it's good to be alone
