    Death Pool 2009

    Hear ye! Hear ye!

Step right up, boys and girls, step right up......we are proud to pry open, for the first time ever, that tasteless and fun "slam bam, git in the dirt, m'am" thread.....The Cyburbia Death Pool 2009 Edition. Come on down, join the festivities!

We are absolutely positive that Calendar Year 2009 will bring us.....

Folks that die that we expected to die.
Folks that die that we did not expect to die.
    Real surprise deaths.
Folks that didn't die and we expected them to die.
Folks that didn't die and we "wanted" them to die.

Note that there are tons of internet sites that offer recommendations for these excursions into Grim Reaper territory. Start doing your homework. Check those sites. Tune into pop programs that discuss the "serious" nature of so-and-so's cancer. Wipe off that crystal ball.

Generally speaking, our Cyburbian participants have not done well. Most of us have just a single correct pick or two, as a year closes. A few contenders always seem to be the leaders. As a group, let's see if we can improve our score!

    The Rules
This Bear will moderate, because nobody else seems to want this grave job. Not a problem if I do it again.....not a problem if somebody else jumps in and volunteers to moderate. Remember, as a moderator your responsibility is to provide scoring updates, periodically. The Death Pool Moderator will also provide a final call on any questionable death or situation. (Hardly ever happens!)

You are allowed 10 picks. You are also allowed to indicate in your posting that you have alternate picks if one of the choices on your 2009 list actually croaks in the last 30-some days of 2008. Strongly encourage folks to make their list but do not submit it until near the final bell. Makes it easier on the moderator.

This thread will close near-midnight on December 31, 2008. Early in 2009, another thread will creak open (like the casket in a scary movie). That will be the UPDATE thread. It will be the "catch-all" for 2009 deaths, comments about those deaths, and the periodic (usually every quarter) standings update.

You Have A Tick On Your Arm

You have a tick on your arm. Pick it up during your walk in the woods, did ya? Listen closely. It is making a simple sound.....

tick tick tick tick tick tick tick.....

Randomly silly way of reminding all to be getting your lists together for the Cyburbia Death Pool 2009. You can cross-off Van Johnson......he passed away yesterday. Other names await your sharp pencil.

tick tick tick tick tick tick tick.....

Well, since none of mine decided that they did not want to see 2009, I'll put up my entire 2008 list again.

Will see the 2009 Rose Parade, but not see 2010 version:

    -Edward M Kennedy (USSenator)
    -Robert Byrd (USSenator)
    -Les Paul (Musician)
    -Brittany Spears (No idea)
    -Charles 'Chuck' Yeager (General-USAF (retired))
    -Michael Moore (No idea)
    -Fidel Castro (Blowhard dictator)
    -Raul Castro (Understudy)
    -Paul Harvey (Radio newsguy)
    -Jimmy Carter (ex USA President)

Again, if any do decide that they would rather not see it, I'll add replacements.

Yes, Chrysler minivans and the Jeep brand are pretty much the only "valuable" parts of the company. But the company as an entity is not long for this world.

And I agree with Pontiac too, but I think Saturn is a first target as opposed to Pontiac, but really Buick should be the first to get the axe. It's almost as pointless as Oldsmobile was, in my opinion.

And Captain Worley - I'm impressed with your bravery to list Obama. I considered it as well, but the thought of a Presidential assassination is a bit too morbid for even me.

Same here. I really wanted to put him on my list but I lived through the Kennedy assassination and the implications of an Obama one are more that I want to consider. Still...let's hope that if he goes, it's from natural causes or self-inflicted.

Yeah, the only reason one would put Obama on such a list is that one thinks the likelihood of assassination is higher for him than others (which I believe in true) as opposed to natural or self-inflicted causes or one just wishes him dead due to political spite.

    My guesses are:

    Prince Phillip
    Michael Jackson
    Ernest Borgnine
    Ted Kennedy
    Patrick Swayze
    Fidel Castro
    Fats Domino
    Kirk Douglas
    and
    Elizabeth Taylor

Mendelman - Abe Vigoda? Really? He will probably disappoint you again. I believe the man is immortal. I think he survived the meteor strike that took out the dinosaurs and most of life on this planet 65 million years ago.

I would be more worried about him suffering a big-time stroke - he sounds not much different than a former boss of mine (like BHO, he smoked like a chimney, too) right before his major stroke (he is still a live, though, but requires 24h care).

Could have sworn that I looked before posting but ZG is right. Tiny Tim left us in 1996. Guess it didn't have too much impact on my life. A former co-worker played in a band that opened for Tiny Tim. He told an amusing story of stopping and eating munchie induced meals three times on the way to a gig because everyone was so stoned that they kept forgetting that they had already eaten.

    Here is my revised list:

    Bob Barker
    Mickey Rooney
    Jack LaLanne
    Richard Wayne Penniman Little Richard
    Chuck Berry
    B.B. King
    Jerry Lewis
    Billy Graham
    Nancy Reagan

TT was a minor celebrity who only was a blip on a very finite generation who happened to be watching Johnny Carson in that one year. I only noticed the death thing because I happened to "be there". Oh, and was he freaky.

I think he has a pretty high risk rate. The only question is who'll get him, the rednecks or the Muslim fundamentalists. Not a couple of groups I'd want after me.

I forgot my dead alternate: Carroll Shelby. (although the guy seems immortal)

    USS Cyclops

I realized I had only picked nine, so I am updating my Dirt Nap List to include #10 and I will name an alternate too.

    My first nine are still:
    Prince Phillip
    Michael Jackson
    Ernest Borgnine
    Ted Kennedy
    Patrick Swayze
    Fidel Castro
    Fats Domino
    Kirk Douglas
    and
    Elizabeth Taylor

Number ten will be: Harry Morgan

My alternate shall be: James Arness
