    Soon to be planner

Greetings from the University of Iowa. I am graduating in May and have been looking for positions in New Zealand, Canada, and scattered locations around the US. I may have to set aside New Zealand for the time being though, it may not be financially feasible at this stage.

Any advice for finding planning positions internationally? I am concentrating on land use and environmental planning.

    Thanks

No advice, but welcome from Chicagoland!!!
I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

Let's not be didactic in this profession, because that is a path to disillusion and irrelevancy.

Also no advice here, but welcome, from Dallas, TX!

Of course we know a lot, but it is context that's missing, not treasures." - Werner Herzog, in Archaeology, March/April 2011

Sorry still no international advise, but

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

    Welcome!

Advice. Learn about work VISA requirmements of the country. Consider volunteering/internship to get your foot in the door. Learn about their planning program & issues and see if your skills/knowledge can assist them. This is of course unproven, however I have been working toward a position in Australia.

    Welcome.

A couple of books that might help:

    What color is your parachute?

And consider posting your career question in the career advice subforum. It might get a better response there.
