    Columbia

How competitive is the urban planning program at Columbia in NY?

From what I've heard, Columbia's MUP program is trying to get its act together. The faculty is small and the program hasn't distinguished itself in any particular area. My visit there seemed to have confirmed this impression. I've also heard that NYU's policy-oriented program is better regarded in the New York area.

There have been quite a lot of discussions on the merits of Columbia on this board. Reading through them should give you a better idea.

I was a bit concerned after reading the negative comments about Columbia here and have asked around with my contacts (professors, planners, PhD students etc) and am hearing something different (mostly positive). At this point, I'll just have to see for myself when I go to their Open House on April 3rd.
