Whats the crack yall....i was wondering if some of you could throw me the age you will be when you start your programs next fall...currently 22 and I am wondering if this hinders my chances of getting into the top programs...berkeley, harvard, mit, etc....i am trying to get dirty with some community and economic development but I know some other portfolio based programs require more age and experience...let me know the blow
I'm 26. I'm glad I waited to apply to graduate school - I really think my experience (3 years as a transportation planner) helped me get in. Plus, I'm hoping the perspective I've gained comes in handy in and out of the classroom.
I'm a bit younger I'd assume than most of you. I start college early and just turned 20 a couple weeks ago. I don't, however, believe that's disadvantaged me. I'm nearly certain my weak personal statement and low GREs will preclude my entrance from the top tiers...oh well, I'm MORE than happy with the program I'll most likely be attending in Canada and there's always time for R-1 and Top 10 schools when it comes to my Ph.D.

I will be 22 when I start this fall. Kind of young for the grad school thing but it didn't really put me at a disadvantage or anything.
Finished planning undergrad at 22, will be going back to school for my MLA around 30, starting school with about 7 years of planning experience (private and public sectors) and then practice both planning/LA after school.

Having gotten degrees in History & Anthropology, I didn't know what I wanted to do with myself after graduation. I thought about classical archaeology, but realized I'd be super old by the time I took all the language requirements & got a PhD. So I settled on teaching until I figured out what I really wanted to do. Seeing kids whose lives are directly affected by the choices that planners make and how that makes teaching these kids like banging your head against a wall, made me want to do something about it. So here I am.
24, a few days shy of 25 and my entering class ranged from 20 to 60...crazy!

I just turned 27.
I'll be 27 when I start in September. Looking back I think taking several years off was an excellent choice.
Will be 21. A bit intimidated by the experience fellow planning students will have, but mostly just enthused, humble and excited to be surrounded by genius.
Will turn 26 in my first semester. 3 years in Peace Corps after a year of web design work after undergrad.

30. But they say you are only as old as you feel.

I was 20 when I started graduate school. Sure, there are some downsides to being young, but I think it has been beneficial to me because I am still fresh out of undergrad and ready to tackle the task.
Waiting is never a bad thing, but if you're like me, you'll hate waiting. Jump into it, but make sure you're ready to knuckle down.
