Did you get a chance to visit the parts of the city that were actually affected by H. Katrina? Not just the 9th Ward, but Mid-City or Lakeview? We're approaching the 4 yr anniversary and some properties (residential and commercial) look exactly the way they did when the flood waters receded.

Only what we could see from I-10 coming in from the east down to Canal St. There were a number of deserted/heavily damaged apartment/condo complexes, closed businesses, and homes with blue tarps on the roofs.

Honestly, my neighbors and I were so peeved at the gawkers out in our neighborhood after we got hit by Charlie in '04. I would be uncomfortable touring someone else's disaster area.

Veloise likes these. Gonna study them for home decor ideas.

Also, the large full-block buildings with the wrap-around wrought iron balconies. Dang stay-cations.

Tell me you brought home lots of shwag from the Martin store...

I love wrought-iron. The house I grew up in had wrought iron railings on the porch. My house that got slammed by Charlie had wrought iron railings and it all got trashed. Wooden posts just weren't the same...

Nope. Limited my purchase to a bottle of La Crema, Carneros, chardonnay. Drank the next night.

I think it gave ZG a heartburn.
    Annoyingly insensitive

What?? No hand grenades or hurricanes from Pat O's? What kind of drunk are you?

Pretty dull, actually. The kid wanted to know if we'd be frequenting bars out there (which we usually don't) but it was hotter than heck so we stopped in for, hey a beer here, a margarita there. Survival, you understand....

    I don't think I've ever had a hurricane. I don't know what a hand grenade is unless it's something I've done and didn't realize...
