    Teh Generic FAC Political Thread

    As Inspired by this thread:
    http://www.cyburbia.org/forums/showthread.php?t=30509

Those damned [insert political party]! The economy stinks right now and it's all the [insert branch of government controlled by that party]'s fault! They've had [insert years] to get something accomplished but instead they've screwed up [insert pet political issue]. If only the [insert opposite party] were in charge, then things would go swimmingly.

[Reference a not very current political scandal involving an individual politician and follow with generalization likening the entire party to that individual's actions]

[Make pretensions towards being independent minded by expressing nonspecific criticism of one's own political party]

    [elitist hat on]
I subscribe to the ideals of a third party and therefore scoff at all the Rs and Ds on this board. Subscribing to such ideals make me smarter and more enlightened. Mevermind the fact that my party gets an average of .0034% of the popular vote.
    [/elitist hat off]

I was also going to choose "Other" and tell Maister to get back to work... but then again, what do I do during the day?

Guilty as charged, tho I have voted for republicans in the past. McCain circa 2000 would probably had gotten my vote in this election. Further, I do have problems with the fringe elements of the D's and don't approve of their stand on certain moral/personal responsibilty issues. My problems with the R's stem from the impeachment of Clinton and the current administration.

What is this "politics" of which you speak?
I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

Let's not be didactic in this profession, because that is a path to disillusion and irrelevancy.

The first joke option was slightly elitist to my way of thinking and therefore not at all funny. Option two, however, I though profoundly funny and thus so voted.

I don't participate in any political threads but would certainly include a RJ comment along with a witty response if I did.

Is someone suggesting RJ for President?
Who does that mean for VP?
    Am I missing something?
Oh hell, what's this country coming to?
If this happens will Natski allow us to hide "Down Under" for the next 4 years?

Attack Of The Ad Count Posts

This Bear clicked the OTHER selection. No choices for me, yet. Anybody have a big roll of duct tape so we can band all three candidates together and only allow what we care about to leak out?

Even though our television is on for long hours, actual selection of any local Toledo channel is very minimal. Probably 10 hours per/week watching local TV. A couple weeks ago I started putting tic marks on a sheet of paper.....every time a commercial for John McCain or Barack Obama is heard/viewed on my TV. I don't track WHO.....just how many.

In that short period of time my ears/eyes have been exposed to 33 local ads for President. And it is only mid-July! I would bet dollars to donuts that our "Great Leader" Dan is also bombarded with prez ads. Ohio is a key battleground in this election and both major parties know it. No doubt their mission is to convince the independents to vote their way.

Note: A McCain ad is now on.....make that tic mark number 34.

I will keep you posted on the tic tally. I know you give a s***.

Totally off-topic: Maister.....were you stationed in England? "Swimmingly"?

Color me confused by this response. The little angel hints at "it's all in fun". But I am occasionally slow to decipher deep cuts.

Because there is no actual reference to a post, am I wrong in assuming the comment is directed to the post in front of the response?

If it is a serious response, explain why presenting an opinion on the three main presidential candidates "ruins" anything.....explain why using a little humor to point out that Ohio (and specifically my little corner of that state) is so very important to the candidates is going to "ruin" anything.....explain why an aside to another poster about a term he used will "ruin" anything.

You have probably gathered that I am, as stated, confused by the response.

Maybe I am reading way too much in to the response.

No! Nothing directed towards you or your comment. I was just spewing typical, political high-mindedness - the sort of stuff you'd hear on talk radio shows. I think Maister's point in starting this thread is that people don't even need a topic to argue about anymore - it's all US vs. THEM and "THEY" are ruining this country.

Thats because "WE" seem to understand that "THEY" are the embodiment of "PURE EVIL" and or "IGNORANCE" and have no concept of how to empathize with "US".

I use so many of these generics...

The far left, and far right may have some great ideas, but only the centrists can say they were right all along.

I support capitalism, government regulation of capitalism, and the progressive income tax.

My Senator made a better executive, when he was Mayor, and my Governor made a better Legislator, when he was a State Senator.

My Independence party can get back to it's party platform, now that Jesse Ventura has decided not to run. (insert your own local politician)
