Student Planner in the Making (TX)

    Hey all!

So excited I came across this forum. I am currently a member on two other skyscraper sites, and now this one (yay!).

I am currently in Texas, attending college. Sadly, I am taking a year off (financial reasons) so that I can work and start to pay off my college debt. After a year or so, I plan on moving to Portland, attend PSU, intern, hopefully become an urban planner, and get an awesome job. Right now, I'm designing some mock skyscrapers and make a portfolio/resume. Can never start to early. Any tips or feedback, don't be afraid to share. I tried making a blog, so the whole world can know how my urban planning journey is going; I think it worked.

I guess that's all I got. Any questions, lemme know.

    Welcome!

Where in Texas? I'm in Oklahoma for college, looking at possibly heading to the DFW area for grad school next year.

    UT-Arlington.

Ft. Worth is a pretty underrated city, I enjoyed it more than I expected when I visited a couple of weeks ago. I realize Portland puts most cities to shame, but I saw a lot of potential there. Downtown was impressive.

Welcome from Central Texas! I've got family up in the Metroplex and you are correct, Ft. Worth is underrated. I'm anxious to see what it is like in about 3-4 years when much of the redevelopment going on is complete.

Suggestion: Check out Four Day Weekend. They're an improv troupe that is based out of a theatre near the Flying Saucer. They are one of the best I've seen and make for a cheap date!

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

Hello, from Dallas, TX! I'm also a UT-Arlington grad school Alum.

Fort Worth is one of the best under-rated and under-appreciated towns out there. The museums are top quality, the downtown is fun and usually full, the city seems to be progressive on a lot of issues, and the city sits on top of a large natural gas shale that is bringing in high revenues for the city. Lots of things happening in Fort Worth!
"We do not need any other Tutankhamun's tomb with all its treasures. We need context. We need understanding. We need knowledge of historical events to tie them together. We don't know much. Of course we know a lot, but it is context that's missing, not treasures." - Werner Herzog, in Archaeology, March/April 2011

UTA is pretty cool. If PDX doesn't work out, then most likely I'll be at UTA. I hate how you can minor in Urban Studies, but can't really major in it per se. Let me know how it goes for you!

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.
