I am distributing the following message on behalf of the Iowa
Architectural Foundation.

Dear Planning Professionals:

We are in need of volunteers to participate in the Community Design
Program for 2008 and beyond. Volunteers receive reimbursement for
their mileage on their personal vehicles. Meals and accommodation
during the charrette period are included. Normally, the time
commitment for a community charrette (including travel time) is
Thursday - Saturday. A design team consists of anywhere from 8 - 12
professionals including ISU students. Professions represented on a
team have included architecture, landscape architecture, planning,
and transportation depending upon the scope of each project.

The Foundation has the following charrettes scheduled for this year --

West Union (scheduled for August 7 - 9, 2008)
The community of West Union will be having a major streetscape
construction project which will necessitate entry to Main Street
businesses from the rear. As with many communities, alleys and rear
entrances to buildings have not received the level of aesthetic
decoration as the heavily-used storefront. This charrette will
provide suggestions for design improvements to alleys, rear facades,
rear entrances, and signage.

Minden (tentatively scheduled for September 18 - 20, 2008) NOTE:
This will not conflict with the Iowa - Iowa State football game!
As part of an Iowa West grant, the community of Minden will benefit
from a CDP visit that will generate ideas for both entryways and
streetscapes of the downtown business district.

Pottawattamie County Tourism (tentatively scheduled for October 2008)
TEAM LEADER: Tim Borich (ISU Extension)
As part of an Iowa West grant, the CDP will assist the Pottawattamie
County Tourism Promotion Committee with proposed designs for gateway
entrances as well as preliminary graphic design concepts for a common
image/theme to use when promoting the county. Suggestions will also
be made for consistent application of the common design element.

Due to the unique nature of this particular charrette, volunteers
with graphic design experience will be essential.

If you are interested in volunteering for one or all of these
charrettes, please contact me ASAP to add your name to the team
roster for the appropriate charrette.

If you are unavailable, please forward this e-mail to a colleague(s)
that may be available and willing to volunteer to assist the
Foundation in promoting awareness of the contribution of architecture
and community design to the quality of life in Iowa.

Thank you for your continued support of the Community Design Program
and the Iowa Architectural Foundation.

Best regards,

Christian Lutz
