So having a certain/specific fictional character statue is either good or bad thing ?
Like these that I have seen -
Steve Canyon in Idaho Springs, CO: http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/11302
(10 years of driving along I-70)
Popeye in Chester, Illinois: http://www.roadsideamerica.com/set/popeye.html

Oddball
Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
From Kelly's Heroes (1970)
Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.
From Electric Horseman (1979)
Suffolk, VA has a statue of Mr. Peanut.
Personally, I would love to see a statue of Robocop somewhere in downtown Detroit. I might even show up for the unveiling!
"Where free unions and collective bargaining are forbidden, freedom is lost." - 1980 Republican presidential candidate Ronald Reagan
And my personal favorite, Nipper the RCA Dog in Albany.
I don't find it embarrassing. Looking back, we may think of Happy Days as a bit cheesy, but it is still one of the more popular telvision programs of the 1970's and is a piece of our popular culture. This may be more true in Milwaukee, where it was supposedly set.
The Bronze Fonze is a piece of pop art. I can accept it for that. It also recognizes Wisconsin's rich entertainment history. TV shows set in Wisconsin:
Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley (Milwaukee)
That 70's Show (Racine)
Perfect Strangers (Appleton)
Films made in Wisconsin:
Hoop Dreams
Amityville Horror
Sleepers
I Love Trouble
Iron Will
Hellraiser
Blues Brothers

It looked a little funny to me when I saw it on the news this morning. I just don't think it's a great likeness of the character, something seems off.
When Jesus said "love your enemies", he probably didn't mean kill them.
i want one for my garden.
In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends. -Martin Luther King Jr.
I always thought that That 70's Show had a very suburban Milwaukeeish feel to it.
Picket Fences was set in a fictional place in Wisconsin that, from all indications, co-incided with real-life Chilton, WI and Calumet County.

I don't know if Flipper has a statue, but he should! Of course, there is one of Walt at WDW.
Mt. Airy, NC (aka Mayberry) is home to the Andy Griffith & Opie statues among other things related to the Andy Griffith Show. Mt. Airy was Andy's hometown.
"He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well. Is that not what it means to know me?" Jeremiah 22:16
What, no genie bottle sculpture in Cocoa Beach, Florida?![]()
The only TV shows set in upstate NY that I can come up with are Maude and the Dick Van Dyke Show, both set in Westchester County. I can't think of any others. Usually TV shows just make fun of upstate cities like Schenectady and Poughkeepsie.
I am not aware of any television shows set in Albuquerque or anywhere else in New Mexico. In the last three or so years there have been tons of TV and movies shot here because of Governor Richardson's film initiative, but few of those are actually set here (at least in TV).
But there is one on the horizon called "Breaking Bad" which promises to make Albuquerque look really good:
Well, it IS a plausible theme here, but not the best PR. If it is successful, maybe one day we could get a giant sculpture of a meth lab!The series, called "Breaking Bad", concerns a High School chemistry teacher who turns to manufacturing crystal meth to make ends meet. Starring Bryan Cranston of Malcolm in the Middle.
The purpose of life is a life of purpose
Toledo, OH, is oft-mentioned in the movies. Usually as a place that somebody "came from". Quite realistic.
The great classic Marilyn Monroe flick, "Niagara", has a salesman who continually mentions Toledo. The class TV show, "MASH", had a major character from Toledo, Klinger, who continually mentions Toledo, wears a Toledo Mud Hens' cap, and oft-remarks about Tony Packo's, that great and famous Toledo restaurant. (Klinger was played by Jamie Farr, from Toledo.)
This Bear cannot recall any pop culture statues in the Toledo area. We have our military heroes, a famous doughboy statue in Swanton......no pop. Maybe some day inner-ring suburb Sylvania will erect a Katie Holmes' statue, perhaps honoring the day when she finally slapped her hubbie and left his silly axx.
Bowling Green State University, just a few miles south, has one of the best popular culture libraries in the world.
And, some day they WILL erect a statue that honors a certain Cyburbian who has laid claim to developing the world's largest hand-drawn fictional city map.
Bearzie
Occupy Cyburbia!
I want to see a life sized statue of Al Waxman erected at the corner of Kensington and Baldwin
Too lazy to beat myself up for being to lazy to beat myself up for being too lazy to... well you get the point....
