    Biggest Parking Lot Contest

What's the single largest expanse of asphalt covering the earth? How about in your community - any behemoth parking lots covering many multiple acres? Is it a factory? university? Heck, does anyone live near Disneyworld?
People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. The question, “Where are you from?” doesn't lead to anything odd or interesting. They live somewhere near a Gap store, and what else do you need to know? - Garrison Keillor

For the purposes of this thread, I would only include those on one level - the stereotypical sea of asphalt.

Anyways, here in the metro Appleton, WI area, it is likely the one at Fox River Mall - they even had to relocate one natural stream and cover another in a concrete culvert to build that one.

I've always been fascinated by the one at Cedar Point, a large Amusement park on a spit out of Sandusky Ohio. The parking lot is all pavement and is surrounded by the Great Lakes.

Does anyone know how they control run-off there (or if they even do?)

One Congress Street in Government Center, Boston, MA

^^This, the largest parking garage in Boston, may not stay the largest parking garage in Boston because it's a prime site for redevelopment. The 2,310-car, eleven-story structure, with two floors of leasable office space, was sold in February, 2007 to Raymond Properties, for $243 million.

I remember this same subject on another message board. I think the answer, after much looking with Google Earth, was the car shipping port in Tokyo. Auto auction sites also have ginormous parking areas, and landscaping is usually nonexistent at the sites.

I think the largest parking garage is at Universal Studios in Orlando.

Cedar Point is certainly the biggest single parking lot that I have slid my vehicle on to. Suprised that nobody mentioned the Harry S. Truman Sports Complex in Kansas City. Their web site claims the lot holds 19,200 vehicles. If you do a Google Map and look at the sat image, it is pretty big.

What about lots for motor sports venues? Probably some big places but could be farm fields that are used for parking, not concrete or asphalt.

That damn stupid Truman Sports Complex parking lot is about the same size of Kansas City's downtown loop!

Well in Milwaukee we have a couple of huge lots. First out at Miller Park it is lot after lot. And then near the Summerfest grounds is lot after lot.

I'm told that Tienanmen Square in Peking is the largest paved area on the planet, but I don't think it is paved with asphalt.

What about Sawgrass Mills in Florida? That mall alone is about a mile long, it's got to have some massive pavement around it.

If I had to hazard a guess I would wonder about Disneyworld. Otherwise, I think some obscure Asian shipping port may have the hat.

    Georgia's Mall of Georgia:

This is an auto auction a little north of Newnan, GA up I-85:

Here's where they ship/receive automobiles in Dundalk, MD:

For perspective, the ship docked NW of the green ship is roughly 900 feet long.
