Celebrities you have seen in person

To continue the trend of "Seen in Person", what celebrities have you seen in person, and where? And this would be celebrities you saw outside of their area of fame. e.g. Seeing Madonna in the grocery store as opposed to seeing Madonna on stage.

    James Woods in Macy's
L.T. at the Mirage in Vegas
    Gabriel Byrne in NYC
Ned Beatty at the Brown Derby in LA (even danced with him)
    Jesse L. Martin in NYC
Woody Allen in a local grocery store
    Jerry Seinfeld in NYC
Jackie the Jokeman in PHX Sky Harbor airport
    Mary McDonnell in PHL airport
    Jack Palance in airport
    Peter Noone in NYC airport
In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends. -Martin Luther King Jr.

    Celeb Sightings...

Mine seems rather laaaaame after yours, but here goes:

Prince at the Miami International Airport
Salman Rushdie at University of Michigan
Thurston Moore at a club in NYC

Would like to someday meet: Amy Sedaris, Betty White
and Loretta Lynn, but I think I need to leave Michigan a bit more
    for that to happen.

I met Danny DeVito at a Queens of the Stone Age concert in California a few years ago and Drew Barrymore and Michael Cera at a Go! Team concert in Detroit over the summer

    I have met RJ.
Isn't he a celebrity of some sort isn't he ? That counts right ?
    Oddball
Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
    From Kelly's Heroes (1970)

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

Many, but my fave sighting was seeing Johnny Cash buying cheap 89 cent gardening gloves at a Walgreens in Hendersonville, TN many years ago.

I think the only one I've ever run into was Kirstie Alley and she looked like a train wreck.

I had a few local celebrities come through my line when I was a cashier in suburban Buffalo. One was a hockey player whom I didn't recognize until after someone said something, the other a local weatherman who may also not have recognized if someone hadn't said something.

If it be baseball players we are talking about:
I stayed at the same hotel as the White Sox for a 3 game series in Kansas City.
    • Frank Thomas (hotel lobby)
    • Joey Cora (hotel lobby)
    • Robin Ventura (hotel restaurant)
    • Carlton Fisk (hotel elevator)

At the end of the White Sox series, I ran into Jack Morris (hotel lobby) of the Detroit Tigers as they came into town to play.

I'm done now. No other brushes with celbrities that I can think of.
Dude, I'm cheesing so hard right now.

Does seeing Jay Mascis, formerly of Dinosaur Jr., in a bar count, or is he too regional?

I also once slept on the couch of the house where Michael Stipe's sister lived in Athens, GA.

    That's about it.

Jay Mascis definitely counts (at least in my book... especially if EMU Planner can count Thurston Moore).

Speaking of Jay Mascis... I saw Lou Barlow a couple years ago at a restaurant I was having dinner at hour or two a Dinosaur Jr. concert in Ann Arbor.

People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. The question, “Where are you from?” doesn't lead to anything odd or interesting. They live somewhere near a Gap store, and what else do you need to know? - Garrison Keillor

I met quite a few of the performers I listed in the other thread because I always had backstage passes. I sat and talked with Bill Clinton twice when he was governor... I've met quite a few Arkansas athletes, like John Daly, Mike Conley, Corliss Williamson, Sidney Moncrief, Steve Atwater, Tom Pagnozzi, and Ken Hamlin to name a few.

I used to talk to George Thorogood from time to time in local bars.

I also met "Sweet Sweet Connie" from the Grand Funk Railroad song!

Ellen Corby, who played Grandma Walton, at a McDonald's in California ~1975

Bonnie Franklin, who played the mother on the sitcom "One Day at a Time," on an Amtrak train, late 1970s

Comedian David Brenner, walking down Fifth Avenue in NYC, 1970s

Johnny Ramone of the Ramones, buying yogurt in a deli in Greenwich Village, mid-1980s

Henry Rollins, at O'Hare Airport, maybe 10? years ago

Bruce Arena, former coach of the U.S. Men's Soccer Team, at the Charlottesville (VA) airport, a few months ago

I'm sure I'm forgetting someone... Funny how I remember the sightings from the '70s better than more recent ones.

    A Sheltered Life

This Bear lives a sheltered life. Met a few sports figures.....

Ernie Harwell (Famous Detroit Tiger broadcaster)
    George Scott (Boston Red Sox)
    Sam Rutigliano (Cleveland Browns Coach)

On a couple different occasions I gave Sam Rutigliano plant tours of my distribution center. He is a good friend of the company CEO.

A number of other sports figures toured my plant.....before I was employed at same. Those folks included Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Gary Pinkel, and an oft-seen NFL referee who lives in nearby Findlay, OH. (We have strong connections to the University of Toledo and Bowling Green State University, "home" for the coaches on the list above.)

    Met a presidential candidate.....

    George McGovern

I don't think I ever met a real celebrity. I do live a sheltered life.

    Fat Cat

At one point in our marriage, Mrs Katt was on a promotion board that brought in a lot of stars including Crosby Stills and Nash among others
She would volunteer me to work security, so I got to see a lot of different stars for a few years, in various states of behavior and some times states of undress as we helped them onto their bus and/or went to their dressing room or bus to get them and bring them on stage, Sometime they would be in an strange state and not know where they were, we would have to gently get them on stage. Their people were grateful because later they could blame us. Saw a lot
At one point in my career, I worked for a city that was a playground for numerous celebrities and was told when I was hired to treat them like normal people and they would come into city hall and complain about various things, the classic was the dog barking at the squirel in the tree, Since I was the new kid on the block it was usually my duty to talk to them at the counter or go out see them in person

    People Cyburbians might know;

Princess Di, at the Melbourne Cup
Russell Crowe at a rugby league game in Sydney (he owns 51% of a team that I am a shareholder in the other 49% of)
    Glenda Jackson when in Liverpool
Sam Neil and Tim Finn at a restaurant in Sydney (they couldn't get a table and Mrs Rem and the wife in the other couple we were with suggested me and my friend give up our spots for them - I chose not to)

    - Chantal Kreviazuk at a concert in Kingston, Ontario.
    - Chris Martin and his three bandmates at a Coldplay concert in Toronto.
    - Tom Cruise, in his pre-jumping-on-a-couch days, via a plasma tv at the Leicester Square in London, England.
    - Frank Thomas, a MLB player at the Rogers Centre (aka Skydome) in Toronto.
    - James Denton, (best known for his role on Desperate Housewives) who pitched at a Toronto Blue Jays game that I went at the Rogers Centre (aka Skydome) in Toronto.
    - Claire and H, two of the original members of Steps, a now-defunct British pop group, Rhianna (not Rihanna, or do I have them reversed?), and Lil' Bow Wow at an outdoors concert in Brighton, England.
