Moonlighting Planners - A Cyburbia Consulting Firm

This idea has stuck with me since we began discussing it a month ago. Since I started my current job I have doen a handful of projects for others, mostly non-profits, with a little compensation. Now I wonder if there is not an opportunity to bring in some additional cash. In this economy, anything extra cannot hurt.

When I had my own business I found the challenge was that I was always going up against larger firms that fielded a team of planners. As a lone eagle, I was usually shot out of the sky. So if I am going to moonlight, this time I am going to assemble a team. Cyburbia has many extremely talented planners who are unemployed, underemployed, or simply interested in some additional work.

If you are interested in throwing your hat in the ring, then simply respond. I will start coordinating this so that we can figure out how to make it work.

My employer has a really strong conflict of interest policy that prevents me from doing this kind of thing, but it sounds fun! Mainly, I like the idea of teaming up with such great folks. I bet I would learn a ton as a rookie planner.

So when do we get our first job? I'm currently unemployed but still helping a local community in unincorporated area try to define an identity. I give them the ordinance revision suggestions and they pass it to county officials. While still employed at the county I wanted to start a hiker/biker plan, something I have never done solo. Maybe we could work on something like that? Start with community non-profit type stuff?
