Parking standards for neighborhood electric vehicles (NEV)

My City is in the process of developing a parking master plan for North Beach. This is a mixed use district located next to the beach and a train station. As part of the overall parking management strategies we intend to include Neighborhood Electric Vehicle spaces (NEV) which have become very popular for local residents to use. We are also seeing more and more small vehicles such as the Smart Car on the road, so we think it is timely to include provisions to encourage their use.

We have started to reseach this and so far have not found any examples of other jurisdictions that have standards for NEV's our engineering division suggest the dimensions of these spaces be 7 feet by 13 feet. We are still trying to decide on what percentage of the dedicated parking can be applied to NEV spaces.

    Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Do any of the electric vehicle manufacturers have a model regulation? A lot of times the manufacturers will put together model regs. I wonder if there is a lobbying organization that might also have some base regs. It would be a starting point. Good luck!

    NEV parking standards

After briefly looking at the maximum NEV vehicle sizes and considering what other Cities are doing (City of Lincoln), I think the NEV stalls should be at least 7x13.

    Here is the link:

The City of Lincoln has a NEV transportation Plan (too large to email- http://www.ci.lincoln.ca.us/pagedown...an-Aug2006.pdf) that they adopted and is now part of their future planning. .
