The voters don't seem as stupid as the campaign people who are challenging some of these.

I do hope the Lizard People win!

Ballot #5 should go to Franken. They wrote Lizard People in, but didn't vote for them.

    That is priceless

I'm kicking myself now for not writing in "Lizard People" on my ballot for something.

Geez....I mean how hard is it to fill out a scantron correctly? Also the challenge reasons are stupid, stupid, stupid in most cases. Electronic voting might help....but I was slightly confused by the electronic voting machine here in NJ....it looks like a big giant paper ballot and you are supposed to press next to the name of the candidate you are voting for, but it's not obvious and it's not a touch screen. Something with the candidates photo and name would be more useful. Then again, I miss voting by mail in Oregon and the superb voter's pamphlet they send out.

    Don't Insult the Donuts
Once upon a time there was a "don't malign vegetables" movement. In Florida recently, it was doughnuts and other fried or sugary foods and drinks. At least in Bay County.

Dr. Jason Newson, who ran the county's health department, made it his mission to try to promote healthy eating in an area of the U.S. known, according to an Associated Press story, as the "Redneck Riviera." He posted signs such as "French Fries = Thunder Thighs" and "Sweet Tea = Liquid Sugar" outside the health department building where he worked.

When he posted the words, "America Dies on Dunkin'," (as opposed to Dunkin' Donuts actual slogan, "America Runs on Dunkin' ") it did not sit well with a county commissioner and two lawyers -- both of whom own doughnut shops.

Newson no longer is in a position to write any slogans at all. Because he is no longer in his position. The Florida Health Department, which hired him to run the county agency, forced him to remove the doughnut sign and then to resign, he says.

The tall, lean former Army doctor, who admits his writings were provocative, has reapplied for his job. His mission remains to fight obesity.

HEADLINE: Woman arrested after calling 911 about police outside
    http://www.courierpress.com/news/200...s/?partner=RSS

A woman who was upset about police cars parked in a lot across from her house later called 911 to report "white males threatening her with a gun" in an apparent reference to the officers outside, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Police say they never threatened 34-year-old Karma L. Jones but did receive multiple complaints from her about their presence. She was arrested on preliminary charges of false informing and public intoxication.

It happened shortly before 4 this morning in the 600 block of East Gum Street.

According to the affidavit, at least two police cars were stopped in a church parking lot while a small group of officers conversed with each other.

Police say Jones was one of two occupants in a nearby house who began yelling from a window that the officers were harassing them and needed to leave.

"I advised ... that we were parked in a public parking lot and we were conversing amongst ourselves quietly and not bothering them," Evansville Police Department officers wrote in the affidavit.

A short time later, Jones came outside and told the officers she had called internal affairs and that they needed to stay put until investigators arrived.

"We complied with her demands," police wrote in the affidavit. "... This infuriated the female."

A few minutes passed and the officers received a dispatch about an anonymous caller who reported men threatening her with a gun in the 600 block of East Gum Street.

Police say they then approached Jones, who told them she had made the call.

"I assumed she was talking about us and I know that none of us threatened her with a weapon," police wrote in the affidavit.

Jones, who also reportedly admitted drinking vodka all night, was then arrested.

HEADLINE: SUV crashes into barber shop, driver flees and leaves children
    http://www.courierpress.com/news/200...h/?partner=RSS

A woman suspected of shoplifting at an East Side discount store tried to flee from employees, but instead crashed into a nearby family barber shop.

The driver, a pregnant, light-skinned black woman, got out of the crashed sport utility vehicle and fled on foot. She is being pursued by police. Another woman with her who did not flee the store has been apprehended by officers. Neither has been identified.

Police said the woman who fled left behind twin 1-year-old children after crashing the SUV into

    Not just once... but...

For the fourth summer in a row, a man has been arrested for public indecency for lounging nude near or on the Great Miami River.
This time, Clarence Fields Jr., 63, is charged with a felony because of prior convictions for the same offense.
Fields has been charged with public indecency several times in the county since 1995, and each of the last four summers.
He was arrested in 2007 following reports of a man naked on a floating raft in the river.
Last year, he was convicted of exposing himself while lounging at Treasure Island Park. He pleaded guilty in 2008 to misdemeanor public indecency and was sentenced to 90 days in Jail.
Most recently, police received a report Aug. 26 of a naked man reclining in the grass near the river levee off East Water Street.
The officer reported he found Field nude and asleep while juveniles were playing on the other side of bushes about 50 feet away.
The public indecency charge was sent for further action to Common Pleas Court from Municipal Court last week after Fields waived a preliminary hearing. Bail of $20,000, 10 percent, was continued. He remains in the county jail.
“It happens every year. We tell him he can’t do it. He still does it,” Police Capt. Joe Long said
If convicted of the fifth-degree felony, Fields could face up to one year in prison.
