    Florida planning goes green

We have been waiting ro see what the Department of Community Affairs (The Florida State Planning Agency) would come up with in the way of rules to implement the "Green" plannining initiave that came out of the last legislature. Still no rules, but at least some movement from the Department. Check out the Secretary's message.

That's good news for Florida... especially the way the Secretary addresses the effect transportation (VMT's) has on the overall emissions and air quality. Here in Michigan, just about any new land use policy or rules will have to be tied to economic matters in order to gain support. Michigan has the highest unemployment rate in the nation right now. But it seems that things may be coming to together for regional mass transit in the Detroit region. Cross your fingers!

"Green" can = economic development. Hope the area mass transit takes off. Detroit used to build lots of great buses. And railroad locomotives. I hope that the Obama infrastructure reconstruction includes mass transit in a big way. If they can build a bus, seems like they can build a LRT car or Amtrak passenger car. Already have designs for a new edition of the sleeper and dinner to go where the high level superliners can't fit.
