    Quantification of mapped information

    Hi!

I'm a grad student in Urban Planning and we have a report on Planning Intelligence and Presentation of Land Use Information.

Wanna ask about quantification of mapped information. I searched several books and I'm still not enlighted with the topic.

Thanks in advance! More power to cyburbia!

What information are you quantifying? Widths of rights-of-way? Percentage of land zoned as commercial? Number of homes within a 1/2 mile walking distance of a junior high school? I assume this is computerized mapping.

Do you need to just make a laundry list of possible calculations, or are you also required to make the calculations based on the mapped information?

"M&Ms. I ran out of paprika."

Could you provide some examples of what you are trying to quantify? I agree with nrschmid that you need to clarify what you are asking for.

For a different perspective, you may want to check out www.cartotalk.com, a forum with lots of cartographers and other map making professionals.

I think this is the part I have to make a report. What I have here in my notes are the nature of information.
    - Qualitative Info
    - Ordered Info
    - Quantitative Info
    - Interval Measurement Scale
    - Ratio Measurement Scale
    a.] Absolute Quantities
    b.] Relative Quantities

I still cannot comprehend the visual variables and their perception properties.
