Article about Athurdale New Deal Community

HEADLINE in my fair city's newspaper - Interest revived in New Deal sites

Now historic preservationists and tourism officials are hoping for increased tourism ...

Located near Morgantown in northern West Virginia, Arthurdale was the first of 100 New Deal resettlement homesteads for the poor and unemployed around the country. Each home in the planned community had electricity, indoor plumbing, a refrigerator and a coal-powered furnace -- tremendous luxuries for rural America in the 1930s.

Has anybody visited any of the listed New Deal Communities ?

I live near Norvelt, PA... EleaNOR RooseVELT. It is called Westmoreland Homesteads in the New Deal list. The town has story and a half bungalows on acre lots with a hen house and room for a garden. I don't think that industries were planned, as in Arthurdale. It's still a nice, little community. My best friend lived there and is still proud of the little house she owned.

I want to visit Arthurdale, which should be about an hour from here. It's one of those things that I need to make time to do.
