Unspecified statement length - Portland & Rutgers

Maybe I'm not looking in the right place, but I don't see any length specifications for either Rutgers or Portland. Does anyone else know? Otherwise, what's an appropriate length when one isn't specified? MIT said 3 pages max, but McGill is 1-2 pages. Safer to be brief or thorough?

when you say portland i assume you mean portland state. From their FAQ page:
You should be able to write an excellent statement in two single-spaced pages or less.
for Rutgers, I didn't see anything concrete. A couple different places hint on what they want but the hints aren't consistent. I submitted 2 pages.
