    Minneapolis APA Conference

    Has anybody considered going ?
Would you go if you had to pay out of your own pocket ?
Have you registered, have travel and hotel reservations already ?
    Laefest ?
    Oddball
Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
    From Kelly's Heroes (1970)

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.
    From Electric Horseman (1979)

Considering it although my muncipal budget is tight so I have to pay for part of it myself this year. But it's within 6 hours driving distance so I might just drive there. Plus I just got AICP certified so I'd like to bank some credits.

What are the must see Minneapolis sights?
How about you take a gander at making an executive decision for once, huh?

My school will subsidize part of the cost so I'm pretty sure I'll be there. If I'm really feeling cheap I can always try to score one of the $1.00 seats on the Mega Bus. I can even have the registration reimbursed if I volunteer there.

As for attractions the only thing that comes to mind is the Mall of America. I'm sure its an interesting city in its own right with out any "must see" attractions.

I will be there as I have a poster in the student exhibit The registration fee is cheap for students and we can earn it back for volunteer service to the conference. Airfare is the biggest expense and one of my fellow students and I are splitting a non-APA arranged room since it was cheaper yet still convenient. I'm excited because it will be my first conference.

I am pretty sure that my office will not be shelling out for me to go. I would consider paying out of my own pocket and going if I could find somewhere really really really cheap to stay. But in the end, I have too much other stuff going on this spring so I will probably be sitting it out.

Nope no one from here is going, heck I think many of us will be giving up our APA membership all together. Between the lack of any real service and the lack of funds APA is just not high on the priority list..OK its not on it at all.

Looking at going to the Zucker course in Austin in February instead of APA this year.

If I had a job, money, or a job that paid for me to go, yes. If I were still at my prior position I don't think they would have paid for me to go this year considering the budget constraints they already have put in. It is a beautiful city though.

No way. We're going through too many budget issues for me to try to justify sending me to APA in Minneapolis. Besides, I've got CM credits to spare.

We have been told that we will be allowed to go. I have been out in Minneapolis before and am already working on the nightly entertainment list.

I'll be going. It is close enough that I can drive there, and I hope to wrap up the rest of my CM credits. But, if all of the AICP people in our office go, we'll each have to spend about $400 out of pocket... cause it is only budgeted for one person from the office to go each year. And I'm okay with paying some of the cost.

Haven't registered or booked anything yet.

Has anybody gotten the fancy Planning issue all about the conference yet?

Not going. My APA/AICP membership expires at the end of March and I'm pretty sure I won't be renewing it. Gee, I'm going to miss all that slick color advertising for me take classes and buy books.

I am going to try and be there. It's close with lots of CM credits.

All (or at least the vast majority) travel is cut from the budget, so no for me. I really wanted to get to Minneapolis

The heck with Mpls: go to St Paul!

Corner of Exchange and Wabashaw, if memory serves.

You know you're been a PHC fan for a long time when...you still own some LPs and 45s of the shows

I love St Paul - one of my favorite cities but I have never been to Minneapolis!

I am so disappointed that Keillor is not the keynote - when they announced this as the location a couple of years ago I thought wow, maybe he'll be the keynote - even do a show but alas - I am severely bummed about it!

    Hey! I am speaking Monday!!!

No wait, we have a travel ban and the City Administrator knows I already have 50 CMs so he is going in my place, paying his own way.

I'd pay my own way but have two in college. ($93.00 a day, every day)

So I will be staying home barring a miracle, which I am working on.

    Status: Not going.
Reason: Pure, unbridled apathy and angst.

What a coincidence!!! I'm speaking each day of the conference, too. But if any of you want to hear me, you'll have to visit the panhandle because that's where I'll be speaking.

I am hopefully going to go. It is my last year to get my student rate, plus I went to school in MN, so its my old stomping grounds. Late April in Minnesota is a very nice time of year usually!

I'll put my name in the hat to be the designated person, but it's already doubtful. We're doing good just to get our dues paid. I've never been to MN, so if I get to go, I will be doing some sightseeing.

Last year they paid for 1 staff member to go to Vegas. But they ponied up for the majority of the Planning Commission members to go!

Of course we know a lot, but it is context that's missing, not treasures." - Werner Herzog, in Archaeology, March/April 2011
