As I stated in my introduction, I work in Brazil and would like to have some background information on a special urban design situation: sloped land. Since we don´t get much politician attention on urban planning, land is usually randomly occupied. Even steep slopes end up with this dense occupation especially by low-quality housing.
There´s a fast growing town that exists on a valley with few plane areas which I´ve been studying for a few months. My goal is to identify if there´s a good way of planning this growth with the least impact on nature and creating pleasant, lively enviroment.
I must confess I did a research on the internet trying to find some experiences in other cities around the world and wasn´t very sucsessful. That led me to think whether is it really possible to plan the growth of this town without getting a long linear design that doesn´t climb the slopes so much (the way it´s happening now).
Does anyone is familiar or have an opinion on this issue?? I could call it urban design and development on steep sloped areas.
Thank you all!
