    The Greatest [Whatever] Ever

The Greatest Rock Band Ever - was the Beatles. There are artists whose music we might enjoy more, there are artists who even had greater commercial success by certain measures, but the Beatles were the all time greatest because they changed the way everyone else was writing and performing music around them.

Agree or disagree? If you disagree be prepared to make a good argument (oh who are we kidding - just go ahead and make a lame argument to the contrary....Dude, like the Beatles songs are all SO stupid, and I think John Lennon acted queer, and like, Guns and Roses ROCK way harder, man....")

Oh, and make your nominations for The Greatest [Whatever] Ever too, so we can debate the merits, or just nod our heads in simple agreement.

    Oddball
Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
    From Kelly's Heroes (1970)

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

Man, WTF was I thinking? This has got to be one of the dumbest FAC thread ideas I've ever come up with (and that's saying something!) I think I drank too much cough syrup. Time to go home.

The Greatest Desert Rat Ever? Why, TO, of course. Is there really a question here?

No way. Aerosmith is the greatest band ever. Why? Because they did better versions of Come Together, I'm Down, and Helter Skelter than the Beatles did. They have also done the greatest versions of Train Kept a Rollin', Big Ten Inch Record, Cry Me a River, Remember Walking in the Sand, and Baby Please Don't Go. Everyone in the world loves singing and dancing to Walk This Way. Aerosmith invented the power ballad with Dream On. Aerosmith influenced everyone from the entire heavy metal genre (Metallica, Megadeth, et. al.), the hair metal genre (Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, etc.), mainstream hard rock (Guns N' Roses), the grunge genre (Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, etc.), and the post-grunge genre (Saliva, Puddle of Mudd). And they are also responsible for introducing hip hop and rap to mainstream audiences, when they teamed up with Run-DMC for a remake of Walk This Way. They also continually use strong blues influences in their music (unlike the Beatles), making sure that the roots of rock and roll remain. Aerosmith's appearance on Wayne's World was the greatest SNL moment ever. I Don't Want to Miss a Thing is a song that you will hear at just about any dance. They launched the acting careers of Alicia Silverstone, Liv Tyler, Mila Kunis, Ed Furlong, Josh Holloway, Eva Mendes, and numerous other young actors and actresses that appeared in their videos. They can write songs about transvestites (Dude Looks Like a Lady) and incest (Janie's Got a Gun) that become Top 20 hits. They have been around for 40 years, and have had the same lineup for about 34 of those years. They did more drugs than anyone, lived to tell about it, and have been clean now for 25 years. They achieved the most remarkable comeback in rock n' roll history. They have the best ride at Disney World. They have performed more concerts than just about anyone (including 240 shows in one tour). And no matter who they share the stage with...Guns N' Roses, Lenny Kravitz, KISS, Britney Spears, Ted Nugent, Foreigner, 'N Sync, AC/DC...they outshine them every time. Their music ecompasses all styles of music, including hard rock, pop, heavy metal, blues, R&B, and rap. Joe Perry is an amazing guitar virtuoso and can perform solos behind his back and beats his guitar with his shirt; He is also the coolest guitar player ever. Steven Tyler is the most rambunctions, flamboyant, energetic, off-the-wall, entertaining frontman ever and he plays harmonica better than anyone and no one can imitate his scream or his scats. The rest of the band is more grounded but just as fun and just as skilled. They have the coolest band logo ever. Rocks is the hardest rocking record ever. They are an icon of three generations: the Baby Boomers, Generation X, and Generation Y. They are reflective of the rags-to-riches aura and hard work ethic of America; the local garage band down the street still probably looks at them as a major influence because of that. They changed the face of rock music in the 1970s and while many have tried, no artist after them has come close to reaching the musical diversity and commercial success they have achieved.

As far as something else that is the Greatest...
Greatest dog breed ever...Labrador Retriever. Why? They come in three colors (black, yellow, and chocolate). They are the most friendliest, well-behaved, and family-friendly dogs. They are extremely intelligent. They help the visually-impaired and the disabled more than any other dog. They are great companions, great workers, and great hunting dogs. They are the most beautiful and graceful dogs ever. They are very athletic and are great runners and swimmers. They are the cutest dogs, especially as puppies. They are very loyal and reliable. And they are the number one dog breed in terms of population in the world.
    "Life's a journey, not a destination"
    -Steven Tyler

You know, for years, he pretty much played just Michigan and FL; my first concert in '73, was Seger in Fl.

Sorry, Bear and RJ: my fave southern rock band is Molly Hatchet. Not an Allman Bros fan and Skynard is overrated. Molly Hatchet was just plain fun.
