I am currently managing a major project for my fair council. This is the biggest and most important project i have ever had the opportunity to manage. I have a team of two other people that are assisting me with the project, that are very competant workers.
Over the past couple of months i have noticed that one of my team members does not come to me for assistance and advice for their part of the project, instead going directly to our section coordinator. The more i see this happening, the more frustrating it is becoming for me for a number of reasons, i guess being that firstly i want to be approachable to ask questions and give feedback, secondly, i am managing the project and have certain visions and outcomes that i feel we should be achieving, and thirdly, i feel that if i cant get the cooperation of my staff in a major project, that my managerial and leadership skill are not that great.
I know that i have to discuss this matter with both my staff member and the coordinator, but i am really unsure how to approach it. It makes it difficult that i dont have the best working relationship with the coordinator. Either which way i know i have to sort something out, otherwise the project will not be completed the way it should be.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Ever been in this situation before?
