    Make Chet's Milwaukee-to-Corpus-Christi Play List

Despite having a 6,000 song iPod and a Satellite Radio, I want to burn a bunch of CDs to make this ride a one way trip of a life time.

My play list is starting with Sia's "Breathe Me" followed by Simple Minds "Don't you forget about me"

I want Cyburbia to round out 3 CDs.

    Starting now.

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
    From Kelly's Heroes (1970)

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

Because of my re-fascination, I'm going with a few The Tubes tunes.

    - Wild Women of Wongo
    - Boy Crazy (thought you'd like that one )
    - Muscle Girls
    - Attack of the 40 Foot Woman
    - Talk to Ya Later
    - Monkey Time
    - Tip of My Tongue

Oh hell, almost anything by The Tubes.
A nuisance may be merely a right thing in the wrong place — like a pig in the parlor instead of the barnyard.

Not knowing your musical taste, I can provide some advice on artists to focus on with your trip to Texas.

Get familiar with "Texas Jesus" Willie Nelson. Singer-songwriters are big down here. You may as well start learning a bit of Texas Country, which is a more entertaining version of country music. Robert Earl Keen, Pat Green and the Randy Rogers Band would be some good starters. Of course there's also George Strait, though I've never been a fan.

Some other mainstream Texas rock artists I'd focus on: Janis Joplin, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Buddy Holly & the Cricketts, Roy Orbison, ZZ Top, At the Drive-In, Bowling for Soup, Blue October, Toadies

If you like Indie Rock: Spoon, …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness, Explosions in the Sky, Okkervil River, This Will Destroy You and The Black Angels are some popular ones on the Austin music scene and should be readily available on iTunes.

I probably can't top bflo_la, but here's some contributions from my last road trip from a variety of genres. My collection is pretty eclectic, so if there's a style you like, say so. I left off some of the indie stuff.
    • I am the Highway - Audioslave
    • Boston - Augustana
    • Against the Wind - Bob Seger
    • Everything Zen - Bush
    • Crossroads - Cream
    • Anything by the Foo Fighters
    • Handlebars - Flobots (not a great road song, but nice reminder that my generation can occassionally think)
    • Jesus of Suburbia/City of the Damned/I don't Care/Dearly Beloved/Tales of Another Broken Home - Green Day
    • Holiday - Green Day
    • Welcome to Paradise - Green Day
    • Brain Stew - Green Day
    • Green Day is actually one of my preferred road trip bands.
    • Paradise City - GnR
    • Ramble On - Led Zeppelin
    • Spirit in the Sky - Norman Greenbaum
    • Evenflow - Pearl Jam
    • Run Like Hell - Pink Floyd
    • Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen... Wayne's World style
    • Tom Petty is a good all-around artist for the road
    • Radiohead, REM, etc.

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

If you need a little light reading on the way to Texas, be sure to download the state's hurricane preparedness info. You'll need it.

    Here's another fun (!) site:

    http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/HAW2/english/intro.shtml

Be sure to scroll down to the historical hurricane tracks map and plug in Corpus Christi.

My new place is out of all evacuation zones, even for a cat 5. I'll still make a kit though.

Don't forget that sharpie to write your SS# on your arm!

Seriously, NOAA has really upgraded the search option. Corpus has been within 65 miles of 8 Cat 4 or 5's, handily beating NOLA. We've had none in our area. But CC doesn't hold a candle to Miami.

Maybe we should make this the "Chet in general moving to CC thread"?

Due to the landscape of the area, I highly recommend large does of the following:

    Dixie Chicks
    Willie Nelson
    U2
    Traveling Wilburys
    Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

I know that there is a lot more, but I don't have my iPod nearby with my list that I created for South Texas.
