We recently completed a Community Health Assessment. One of the topics included Wellness in the Workplace.
Our municipality used to have a Wellness Committee but it is now defunct. I'm thinking of trying to breathe a little life into it.
Does your workplace have a Wellness Committee or the like? Are there any programs, information, or policies the WC implemented that you like? Think are successful? Think is a waste of time?

We have a Wellness Committee that is quite active, they schedule seminars on healthy eating, exercise, etc and right now we are in the middle of employee olympics. We work with our insurance provider (BCBS) and they provide much of the resources. Good luck!

Our Wellness Committee is super active, and just recently won some state award from the Governor. And, the committee's efforts are going hand-in-hand with a new Healthy Employee Incentive Program. Currently, our health insurance is covered 100%, but to try to keep us all healthy and possibly cut costs, all non-union employees now need to acquire a certain number of points, otherwise health insurance will only be covered at 80%. We acquire points by logging in a certain amount of "activity hours", doing a health risk assessment and blood test and scoring well on it, having regular dr./dentist/vision check ups... 5 points for a colonoscopy! WooHoo! And the Committee organizes these "lunch and learns" were you can pick up more points while learning how to reduce stress in your life and stuff like that.
Other things the committee has organized:
- offered seed money to each department that wants to start their own "healthy snack bowl" to keep a stash of healthy snacks in the office.
- organizes bike to work day and other group exercise events (with raffle prizes going to participants).
- and other stuff that isn't coming to mind right now.
Does anybody else have mandated health incentive programs, like we have to deal with?
We have a wellness program here at work (public sector)- benefits include:
Wellness month- with free fresh fruit, health professionals giving advice and free massages
Corporate Fitness program- money towards gym membership, sport equipment etc
Support in entering corporate games events
Bi annual sports competition between outdoor and indoor staff
Yoga at lunchtimes
and weight watchers programs

y'all are lucky. we have nothing and no budget. well we might be lucky and get a $500 budget from a grant we participated in.
