    Open space zoning

I'm looking for examples of zoning ordinance standards relating to open space. Our city is purchasing blocks of undeveloped land for open space. The terms of the bond measure under which the property is being purchased do not allow any development on the property (e.g. no snack bars, no ball fields. trees, wetlands, and trails are OK). Because of these restrictions, the property does not fit into our Park zoning classification.

Go to http://ci.vail.co.us to see our town code online. Chapter 12-8C (Natural Area Preservation District) should be an example of what you are looking for.

    Happy new year.

You could create an "Open Space District" with the stipulations you desire; I used that approach in one town for the flood hazard areas. You could achieve the same results with deed restrictions since you will own the land. But since you have a Park district, you may as well add another several pages to your zoning code.
