Suggestions for Additional SMILEYS (serious topic)

Not in any particular order of importance:

    1. Wine.

    2. Texas.

    3. LOL!!!!!!

    4. Wink that's less flirtatious, more subtle.
    (Example: )

    5. Thumbs-up.
    (Cyburbia PMs have )

    6. Idea.
    (Cyburbia PMs have )

    7. Important/Urgent.
    (Cyburbia PMs have )

    8. Surprised (but not freaked or wow'd).
    (Example: )

    9. Green.
(Only in the sense of 'environmentally friendly'.)

    10. Geek/Nerd.

Less important than the above, but still worth considering:
    - Doing 'The Happy Dance'
    - Overly He-man
    - Overly Girlie

I can get behind these! Being a wine drinker in Texas, the first two are a high priority, and then after that statement, I'd put a non-flirtatious winkie!
I like the Green (not sick-face) option, too!

Of course we know a lot, but it is context that's missing, not treasures." - Werner Herzog, in Archaeology, March/April 2011

I'd like to see one representing the whoosh of an idea/comment/post flying over someone's head.

btw, I don't find the winky smilie flirtatious at all.

I think some more emotes are a good idea as so much of at least the FAC is hard to follow if you don't add some emotion to the written word.

I did not think was flirty
This is the "flirty" one or this in my mind
"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." Ben Franklin

Remember this motto to live by: "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO- HOO what a ride!'"

I like the modest amount of smilies that we currently have right now. Some other sites have too much glurgy crap.
You get all squeezed up inside/Like the days were carved in stone/You get all wired up inside/And it's bad to be alone

You can go out, you can take a ride/And when you get out on your own/You get all smoothed out inside/And it's good to be alone

Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

I'm a bit anal about maintaining consistency with the site's graphic elements. Cyburbia uses custom buttons, editor toolbars, and smileys; they aren't the vBulletin default. They're based on or similar to themes designed by Elverado, a Brazilian graphic designer who created interfaces for various open source Linux programs and window managers.

The smileys are based on MS Messenger emoticons, which have a look that complements the Elverado/crystal/plastic inspired theme. The similes are a couple of pixels smaller than vBulletin default smileys.

As zmanPLAN said, we want to avoid having too much glurgey crap. I've seen some sites that have hundreds of smileys of all different sizes and shaped, many of them animated, and few coordinated with the main design theme of the site. For example, here's the smile list on Skyscraper City: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/misc.p...=vB_Editor_001 (I'm not intending to put down the site, but rather to point out what others do.)

If we do add smileys, they've got to be consistent with the graphic theme of the site, not really larger than 15x15 pixels (maybe a bit longer horizontally), and NOT ANIMATED. No dancing banana Peanut Butter Jelly Time smileys. Also, there's already a lot of smileys that don't get much use. We want to know new smileys will get used from time to time before we send the time to create them.

How about a frowny face with a tear? Sometimes just doesn't get the point across.

i was going to make a wise remark about that one until i saw that its actual title is "gagged"...

on the AUGI board they have a head smashing a brick wall (sorry its animated) that gets used quite a bit and generally would fit the cyburbia theme i think. and we can all certainly relate to it.

I dont understand the gay smile.

I'd avoid Texas. Just because there are alot of us here, don't single us out and "un-clique" the others.

El Guapo is funny but lost on anyone here less than a few years.

Just don't change the codes like happened once before. I mean, where what used to give you X smiley no longer worked and the forum lost a lot of smileys. If you can ADD smileys, that might be cool. But displacing existing smileys causes code problems and misunderstandings -- especially when old threads come back from the dead and now they have different expressions.

    Just my 2 cents.

The gay smiley is just purpleish/pinkish, and I don't think it's derogatory unlike gay smileys I've seen on other boards; for example:
    Moderator note:
(Dan) hey, yourself, don't post animated images!

Breaking a rule, I know, but it's to make a point.

The EG smiley could be the Texas smiley.

Canadians have always had the symbol, and to my knowledge, this has not led to cliquish behavior.

Perhaps a Spongebob could be the gay smile. (Or is it 'nebulously gay'?)

Never thought of SBSP as gay. NTTAWWT.

Even then, the purple smiley is just a smiley that happens to be gay; it's not a "gay smiley".
