Hi, I'm a planner who lives in Canberra (our nation's capital city). I'm also qualified as an architect and lawyer too but dont practise in either discipline at present. In terms of my planning experience, I'm familiar with both the planning system and canberra but more experienced in planning in nearby New South Wales. Planning in Australia is undergoing massive reform at present as there was, until the economic downturn, a shortage of planners, particularly in development assessment, my main area of expertise. The way this is seemingly being dealt with is to exclude single residential from needing approval by planners and hand it over to be signed off by Building Certifiers. THis leaves only the large multi-unit or complex applications to be dealt with by planners.
I am between jobs at present as I run my own planning consultancy and the large type of work I specialise in has dried up somewhat due to the economic crisis but I am well down the track to planning a self help for developers website.
I'm looking forward to exploring Cyburbia and also wonder if anyone else hear shares my interest in pre-fab housing, something I think will take off in the future.
