natski please check in when you get an chance.

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

According to CNN, there doesn't appear to be any major damage. Let's hope this is the case!

Supposedly the Russians only scored the quake a 7.2.

    Yeah im alive!!

Parts of Sydney felt it, althought i was in the Art Gallery at the time and felt nothing. Apparently a Tsunami warning was given for our east coast, but nothing came of it.

If it were still Soviet Russia, the quake would score you!

That's funny - the last time that we had an earthquake big enough for people to feel (last summer, about 4.8 I think - no damage) I was in an art gallery and felt nothing. They must be safe places to be!

I once saw some show about how they were retrofitting some art gallery in LA -- to protect the valuable contents should there ever be a big quake.
