I'm interested in seeing the map showing the damage to the trees.

In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends. -Martin Luther King Jr.
This is exactly the sort of storm that should be expected in the coming years as we add more energy into the earth system.
We should be having a societal discussion about how to adapt to and mitigate these effects. We should learn the lessons from these events and the lessons of the fake town hall events and fake astroturf letters and fake phone call campaigns to defeat carbon legislation.

However there may be clues to mapping damage in this comment thread.
After the freak storms we had here last year -- remnants of Hurricane Ike in the Ohio Valley and a wicked ice storm -- we lost a lot of urban forest. It's a bummer, but I liked the quote toward the end of the story: we need to get busy planting new trees "our grandkids will enjoy them".

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.
