Must have to do with the NJ corruption ring.

Planning positions? I hope planners weren't involved in any of this.

Yep, Hoboken was one of the cities. Jersey City too, where apparently the zoning counter is cash-only:

    wow.

One thing that caught my eye though was this
he's hoping to build a large-scale apartment development worth up to $200 million in their city. He tells them he's fine with paying approximately $200,000 to $300,000 "up-front" to assist in obtaining the necessary approvals.
That's not uncommon and probably even low for permit and impact fees for a 200 million dollar development in alot of places I have worked.

Cash for approval with sackings is alive and well in Australia

See here for the sordid dealings in Wollongong. http://www.illawarramercury.com.au/n...n/1572982.aspx

Planner sleeps with developer then gives approval!!

    I think I prefer the $$$'s

I was ready to type that I have never been offered a bribe, but...I have been in a few situations where the applicant said, "what would it take to get your approval?" I suppose if I were so inclined such discussion could have led to offers of cash.

    Take the money !

Brown paper bags, small denomination bills, non-sequential numbers. Then just fill out the gift disclosure and book the plane tx to Bahamas or St Moritz

Maybe Beth Morgan from Wollongong Council moved to Hoboken to escape her infamy ? (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle3420017.ece) She traded the Greeks for the Italians?

I see one of the positions on offer for Hoboken is the Director of Environmental Services including "garbage collection". Wasnt this Tony Soprano's cover as well?

As a building inspector I was offered a bribe once in a very polished and deniable way by a mobile home slumlord, who asked me prior to his requested meeting with me on site about corrections items, "Do I need to bring money, (pause), for a re-inspect fee or anything?"

I gently assured him that inspectors did not accept any kind of payments or fees in the field, that he would have to make all payments across the office counter to clerical people.

In Australia (particularly Sydney) brothels are legal and included in some councils zoning plans. We deal with lots of shady individuals wanting to open up a "massage parlor" and then you always have to ask what they mean.......some planners have been fired for accepting free services as well as councilors.

Part of me keeps thinking that I work in the wrong place. No offers of "services" or bribes anywhere near me.

That would be the small unethical part that doesn't want to keep a job and likes the idea of jail time.
