Jerry and Magraret adn Ginny and I went to the funeral. There were
several of his former students there as well, so the department was well
represented.

As you may have heard Dee, my beloved wife of 57 years, passed away
about 10:30 Monday evening at Hospice... things seemed to accelerate
very quickly this past week. She was being given a lot of pain medicine
by Hospice in-home nurses to relieve her stomach pain, which begin to
increase on Friday and continued through the weekend... to the point
where they could not give her any more medicine here at home and she had
to go into Hospice so they could monitor the increased medicine needed
there at Hospice. She passed on quietly and peacefully when they finally
were able to get the pain somewhat under control... Our two sons and two
daughters were all there... We are still trying to understand the
overall speed that the cancer seemed to take over her body... but the
blessing is that she is finally at peace and at rest... and for that we
are grateful...
There will be a brief obituary in tomorrow mornings paper... with more
on Friday and Saturday... We are having a private memorial celebration
on Saturday evening for family only... and then on Sunday afternoon
there will be a memorial celebration for anyone interested from 2 to 4
PM in the Fellowship Hall at St. Johns Episcopal Church... both of these
are very informal and very simple as Dee requested... she will be
cremated and placed in a space reserved for her and me at Elmwood
Cemetery... again, family only... she has 4 sisters with their families,
plus our 4 children and their families... so ‘family only’ is still a
pretty good sized group.
Thank you ALL for being such good friends to Dee... and to me... Jack...
