APA National Conference - April 2010 - NOLA

Is it too early to start this thread?

Very difficult economic times, but is anyone else planning to attend? I received verbal approval to head for the Big Easy and I know a couple of other Cyburbians are making plans to attend.

Maybe a Laefest at Acme Oyster House or Larry Flynt's Hustler Club? Both are in walking distance of each other in the Quarter.

    Just starting the ball rolling.

Will attend only if I am willing to spend my own money.

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

    Well.....

I have the money in the budget to attend.....convincing the powers that I SHOULD is another matter I've had this one flagged since the last APA conference in the Big Easy.

My new boss wants to go to NOLA. I don't know if he will take me though. We'll see.

I would like to go, but it depends on how much work I am able to bring in in the next 2-3 months.

I want to go. If i get a new job more than likely i will go. If i stick around here, then no go. If we win an award for which we will be submitting (small town and rural planning division) then i will for sure attend.

Were you at the last conference in NOLA? I was there.
Could it be that you were the guy I punched out at that gentleman's club up the street from Larry's because you were wearing a khaki shirt and blue dockers?

No, I think he was in a tangerine speedo. Or is that just for Thanksgiving, TO?

I'm hoping to go, I'll have the means, but maybe not the motivation. And since it's the weekend I may have a tour guide, which would be cool. We'll see, I'm in an apathetic rut right now!

More than likely I will go to take advantage of my last year at the cheapo student rate which I can even earn back if I work a day for the conference.

I hope to be there. I've received verbal approval, financial assistance might be another story.

I wouldn't be opposed to sharing a hotel room if someone else is looking for ways to cut costs a bit.

RJ, NOLA is one big laefest! I'm hoping to have one each night.

If I go, it will be on my own dime. My new position does not require/prefer an AICP, so the city will not pay for it. And I don't know what my finances will look like then, either. I really want to go - I haven't done a full National Conference ever. All I've done is a weekend.

No, but there was a hooker on Bourbon Street that spoke highly of her the last time I was there.

uh oh RJ - you owe me a drink for that

nope, not a speaker this year - couldn't get it together last summer when the call for presentaitons went out so I take that as a sign that I shouldn't do it...

I'm planning to attend. It seems we don't get to many APA national conferences here in "flyover country". Lots of Boston's, LA's, and Seattle's. Haven't been to a national in several years.

The only people going from my office are those who are doing presentations. We have are starting to have some pretty serious money problems at my agency. We have a hiring freeze in effect.
