New Year's Celebration in the Town Up the Road

In Vincennes, IN they have the Watermelon Drop -

At the stroke of midnight, 2010 will begin when 10 Knox County-grown watermelons fall 100 feet, producing a colorful splat,

Does your fair city or the Town Up the Road do anything slightly unusual ?

    Oddball
Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

One group in Madison, WI did a midnight computer drop ten years ago.

Mostly it is town square and fireworks stuff in the various munis here in the Appleton, WI area.

Does a New Year's Eve Beach Ball Drop count for anything?

The Baptist here are doing a "Champagne Free" New Year's Celebration with gospel music, a spritual message and a balloon drop at midnight at the civic center.

I'll be somewhere else (our group of friends always has an oyster roast ... with champagne)

AH, the Baptists. Like the late Molly Ivins said: "Cats are like Baptists. You know they raise hell, you just can't catch them at it."

Quite the party planned for my burg. And it's entertaining to read the newspaper article about last year, "despite some issues...non-customers...warming station...restrooms..."

(A friend who works for another radio station mentioned the pending Chapter 11 filing by this event promoter.)

    Here's where I'll be.
