Do you need to be a transportation planner to work in active transportation?

As I am contemplating careers I was just wondering, do you have to be transportation planner to work in active transportation.

Say on pedestrian and cylcle planning and the like.

It would seem that transportation involves some pretty specific skills, and largely quantitative, whereas clearly there are other factors that come into the mix when you look at places where people walk and cycle.

By extension would I necessarily have to apply to a school that specializes in transportation to do active transportation?

    Thanks.

In the states, a planner is a planner regardless of specialization. It would serve you well to take some coursework in transportation planning and civil engineering if what you want to do is work bicycle and pedestrian issues.
