This definitely doesn't have the classic architecture of the house of prayer posted up by The Bear, but it may be a bit more Iconic (pun intended).
I do not know much about this facility other than that it is rather eye catching. I will say that it is outside a medium-sized Midwestern city and quite visible from a major interstate.

Detroit Planner basically got it - Monroe's Solid Rock Church off the interstate north of Cincinnati. That's a hard one to forget...

There's a hymn called the The Solid Rock that has the refrain, "On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand". I would guess that both the name of the church and the inspiration for the sculpture came from there.

^^ That old thread is hilarious. I haven't driven through in a while, but I remember that intersection. The Roadside America site mentions the lifesize fiberglass stallions, too.

That is the famous Big Butter Jesus (if you listen to Bob & Tom) in my neck of the woods. It was pretty much just a joke (especially since the church pastor has a history...) for most people, but I guess the church people there liked it.
It is just down the road from the anatomically correct horse at Traders World.
It did make for a great "H" for a group of three people... one to the left with their hands in the "O" shape, one just to the right with the "I", and another just to their right with another "O". Just think about it

Well, you put a steel frame up that high, compared with its surroundings, it'll get hit. It looks to me like an engineering 'fail' - they forgot something that most church spires include - the lightning rods and connected grounding lines (c'mon, that's BEN FRANKLIN tech!).

So the news is the church is scrambling to rebuild as quickly as possible. I was taught in years of Southern Baptist upbringing that God has a plan and that he has a message in everything that happens. As an evangelical church, I'm guessing they believe that. If so, lightning striking and burning a statue of Jesus that you built seems like a pretty strong message. Just saying...

Apparently, the church didn't understand the meaning of a large and gaudy Jesus statute being struck by lightning and burned to the ground.
