    Canadian "Planning" forum

Are there any other planning forums that provide networks to the community of Canadian planners?

It would be nice if there was a separate forum on Cyburbia for Canadian planners along the lines of "Planning in the UK" and "Planning in Australia".

    Just a suggestion.

Why isn't there a separate Canadian planning forum? Two big reasons.

    * Canadians have been established and active on the Cyburbia Forums since it began in 1996. They posted in the general, non-country specific forums, long before Cyburbia began to experience an influx of new members from outside of North America.

    * The planning process used in Canadian provinces really isn't that much different than what's seen in the United States. Yes, there are various provincial planning acts, but south of the border, most states have their own unique quirks and laws too.

Why the separate forum for planners in the UK? Because the planning process there is radically different than the comprehensive plan/zoning/planning commission system used in the US and Canada. Australia's states have planning processes that aren't that alien from what's seen in North America, but that forum exists mainly to discuss the many aspects of planning that are uniquely Australian. The forums were also created to attract more Australian and UK planners to Cyburbia, and keep them engaged, by giving them a "safe space" to discuss certain planning issues without being drowned out by North American zoning and new urbanism talk.

The country-specific forums don't get a lot of use, and we may remove them in the future. Best practice for message boards is to have a smaller number of more active forums rather than a large number of less active forums.
