GIS datum information NAD 83 1998

I am attempting to import data from a client into an ongoing GIS project.

The problem: the rest of the data is in NAD 83 and the data that the client wants to add is in NAD 83 1998, so the polygons are not lining up properly.

As I understand it, 1998 should be the year that NAD 83 was updated to remedy minor projection anomalies, and should be state specific.

Would that mean NAD 83 1998 (in Hawaii) would be the same thing as NAD 83 HARN? Google seems to agree with me, but I can't get a 100% straight answer out of her.

I know these are awfully boring questions so early in the morning, but any advice would be appreciated.

If both sets of data have the correct spatial reference then ArcMap should take that into account and they should be aligned.

I suspect that one has been given the wrong spatial information; however, it could be plenty of other things.

    Thanks macsurf!

We used the NAD 83 HARN projection and things seem to be aligned much more smoothly now.
