The subtle and refined art of the emoticon

Giving btrage a polite golf clap.

Is the smilie the same as saying "what ever" ?

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

It seems the second post was meant to go back to the RTDNTOTO section but was moved here...

On the topic, I think the roll eyes is used for sarcasm. At least that is how I use it. You say something sarcastic then roll your eyes.

Ahh, the art of the emoticon. I've often wondered about this myself. Holding the cursor over the face provides a label for the supposedly intended emotion, but I admit I interpret them a bit differently at times than they appear to intend. I'll bet others do this as well.

Take this one for example..... - it's listed as 'indifferent' but to me it conveys the essence of 'huh?' or 'come again?' or 'veeerrry interesting...but shtupid" It's two steps below a 'freaked' reaction IMHO

So does anyone else do/see this?

These are subtle shades and to me could convey something of surprise and reproach, whereas is more along the lines of surprise and incredulity.
