Advice on how to enter the industry in Australia

I recently graduated with a Distinction in my Masters in Environmental Planning while back at home in Belfast. At the time the job situation was dire so I have decided to move to Melbourne to try here instead.
I have emailed my CV to a large amount of firms and applied for numerous posts with limited success.
Does anyone have advice on how to get into the industry considering I have 1 and a half years planning experience back in the UK?
Also, what legislation/ rules/ regulations should I know inside out?
Seems difficult to enter the industry as everyone wants local experience which I don't have and can't get-any advice on how to get this would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Philip

    Hi Philip,
Have a look at rural city councils around victoria, specialists in Environmental Planning will be worth their weight in gold within the next short while.
You need to know the Planning and Environment Act, State Planning Policy Framework, and how Local Ordinances work, there's a lot more than that obviously, but its a start.
