- thanks to the Brits the world probably drinks a lot more tea than it would otherwise
If it weren't for the UK, all the Canadians would all speak French, Russian, or Viking and the Mexicans would all speak Spanish and I wouldn't be able to talk to anyone.

A few from me....
The Good:
-Ale
-All of those place names that make such great street names
-The newspapers (and press corps in general) for reporting on USA domestic things that the USA's 'popular' press ignores
-They have been our most steadfast ally ever since the end of hostilities in the War of 1812
-Railroads (the World's first common-carrier railroad was in the UK)
-Roundabouts (yep, the Brits invented them)
-The stabilizing and unifying effect of the Royal Family
-Football (as in 'soccer')
-Golf (even though I don't play it)
-Great popular media shows, especially their intellectual comedy (Benny Hill, Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, etc), along with Dr Who and going all the way back to Shakespeare.
-'Prime Minister's Questions' in the House of Commons
-'Page Three' girls (and a much lower overall level of hysteria over issues relating to such things than here in the USA)
-AND (harking to another current thread in FACland) - Wonderbras™!
The Bad:
-No '1st Amendment' - you can be imprisoned for unPC speech
-£145.50/year license required to watch over-the-air television
-The NHS - despite what some here in the USA might want to think, it's pretty bad
-An irrational stubbornness in refusing to change their highway signs to metric, even though nearly every other aspect of British life (other than serving ale in pint glasses) is already metricated and there is a persistent problem with lorry drivers from the 'continent' driving their rigs into low bridges.
-Aggressive use of automatic cameras for speed limit enforcement
-'Surveillance nation' - there are police cameras literally EVERYWHERE
-Undisciplined football fans
-Labour governments, especially the one that was elected in 1945 - they literally nationalized the entire country - and the terrible economic malaise that followed until at least the Thatcher years
