The City of Marshalltown has a $500 application fee for ordinance amendments that are geared towards one person or business. Changes that will benefit the whole community (typically initiated by staff) have no fee. It is the same cost as a rezoning because the process is virtually the same under our code. In addition, the same request can not be brought up more than once per year because we saw the same applicant proposing the same change every six months.
To the BOA comment, I was under the impression that you can not get a variance for uses, just bulk requirements? We allow the rezoning of an existing lot even if it is under our minimum square footage because otherwise the lot may sit in a vacant state forever or be under utilized.
