    Google Help?

Who has the skillz around here? I'm trying to find an electronic message display somewhere on I-196 in the vicinity of Grandville, MI (somewhere around 28th street or 44th). Any GR area planners familiar with the sign (I could be off a little on the location)?

That particular sign should be managed by the West Michigan Traffic Management Center. Here is their contact information: http://www.michigan.gov/mdot/0,1607,...549---,00.html

Are you talking about digital billboards or those MDOT electronic message signs?

Here is a link to the ITS map. It does not show any signs, but there is a camera at Chicago. http://mdotnetpublic.state.mi.us/drive/

The message sign stuff may be down. In my metro the sign locations are shown, but no message is being indicated as being displayed. Even when there is no message, it typically has stuff like times to destinations or Buckle Up!

    Grand Rapids-area hwy message boards

If you are allowed to use Bing at work:

I drove back along that route twice in a couple of days (gigging in Hudsonville and Zeeland). Not recalling any message boards.
Also, there are no electronic billboards in that area. City of Wyoming has a couple.

This may be associated with Spectrum Health if that's any help.

There is one at the M-6/Byron Center interchange. It's for Metro Health. Maybe this is the one you're after.

It's not a digital billboard, but a large digital sign for the hospital. It's in the northeast portion of the interchange.

On 131 between 28th Street and maybe 54th. There might be two of them. Extremely bright during the day, and way too bright at night. They've been the subject of recent discussions down at their city hall.

Without looking it up, I can say that they are prohibited in my favorite city.

If you hadn't been gabbing on your phone most of the afternoon, you could have answered the question, "I am near it, do you want a photo?"

That's one of the great things about New York state. Yesterday I had a 2 1/2 hour drive from Buffalo to a Finger Lakes-area city, and saw maybe 10 or 12 billboards, tops, along the whole route.

Buffalo-area sign regulations may be stuck in the 1970s, but at least billboards and high-rise signs are few and far between around here. As are monument signs.
