How long did it take for you guys to hear back after an interview?

I had an interview two weeks ago with a city and it went really well. I think I signed a paper prior to the interview that they will not be contacting those who were not selected (within two weeks). I should've double checked or asked but I was preparing for my interview that it didn't really come across me to confirm. Should I call them, now that it is exactly two weeks later? or should I wait and give it a few more days?

Curious what the average "waiting period" is with government positions.

Give them a day or two, at most three, then definitely follow up.

I've never heard of the "no contact contract" like what you signed.

Many communities will stagger out their interviews over a week or two. You'll know when they call you up, and give you a choice of interview times.

I've found out that I got a job anywhere from right after the interview, to a week or so afterward. Occasionally, there will be a delay before a call for a second interview.

I've waited weeks and even months before finding out, even in one case where I got the job. I'd generally recommend not being a nag. They know where to find you if they want to offer you a position- and most places send out a negative letter to those they interviewed (as opposed to those who simply applied) once they fill the position.

They won't tell you much before they actually have a warm body, because they want to keep their options open. If you're choice 3 and choices 1 and 2 both hem and haw and end up not taking the job, they want to keep your candidacy alive.

For my current gig i got a call back about 15 mins after my interview for a 2nd interview the next day.

    Landed job the week after.

If it has been two weeks, just follow up already. Screw the "paper" you signed. When i started, people will still calling following up on my position, and it has been almost 4 weeks later.

#1. Don't wait around for any phonecall or response. A good interview is a good interview, nothing more. Move on to the other applications you are currently working on. When I interviewed, I was juggling a few other applications that I got right back to, no matter how well the interview went.
#2. There is no rule, but if they aren't interviewing anyone else after you, they should be getting back to you very soon if they are interested.

I've been hired on the spot, and with others have never been contacted. So you can expect just about anything.................

If your curious then call the human resources department and inquire on the status of the position and do not identify yourself. That has always worked for me. I have never been asked for my name and I have always gotten an answer.

I'm calling tomorrow and asking whether the position has been filled. I have not yet decided whether I will identify myself but I guess it is better than to keep waiting around.

One of the interviewers walked me back to the receptionist and said that it shows commitment for the position that I had flown back just for the interview (I was on a vacation with my family when I received the call for an interview the following week). Thought everything went really well so I keep thinking that they are either too busy or that government agencies just tend to get to things a bit slower than private sectors. Now that two weeks have passed I feel really bummed out because I really wanted to get my career in planning going, and I don't see any other open positions where I fit the qualifications (I graduated this May with Masters in UP).

Thank you for all your replies.
