Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

Possibly. I don't work in a gig that really counts towards getting AICP. Depending on the outcome of last week's interview this could change. I'd like to go since it's in Boston and is just a 4.5 hour drive from here and I love Boston.

My employer is planning on sending me and bobcatplanner. However, depending on my law/grad school decision, I may not go. I would have a problem allowing the city to pay my travel and registration expenses if I knew I was going to be leaving a couple of months afterward.
I wish since its fairly close for a national conference and easy travel, but no $$$ in the budget.

I hope to attend. There's $$ in the budget and the PD has given me his verbal ok. Now I just need to do the paperwork.
I'm up for a laefest.![]()
No conference for me either this year since it is across the country and no extra $$$ in the education budget. I will be attending our state conference for the 1st time since 2007 (i am on the conference committee). However, i fully expect to see some of you in 2012 in Los Angeles![]()

The company I work for sent 4 or 5 individuals last year, but we also won an APA award. I did not go last year, and the last one I've been to was Chicago 2002, but I hope I can go this year.
No $$$ in the budget. City sent me to one, count, one, national (in DC) and I covered my own airfare and food and lodging (which actually was $0 since I stayed with relatives). The CM told me we're not even going to cover the state APA meeting this year.
I'd like to go but obviously cost and time considerations must be looked at first. Probably too early to call it. I went to Las Vegas and Minneapolis, but missed New Orleans. Actually, before I talk about going to Boston, the first thing I need to do is re-join APA........I stopped paying my dues about a year ago (I knew I would be leaving Alabama soon, so I didn't want to continue paying dues to that chapter, and I knew I would miss New Orleans so I decided not to pay any dues at all last year). So, I need to reapply for membership, pay my dues, etc.
MegaBus from New York is only $15 round trip to Boston. I can take another bus from where I live in NJ for $13 round trip to midtown Manhattan, so all in all I would end up spending less than $30 round trip on transportation costs to/from Boston, which would be great.
I went to the APA National Conference the last time it was in Boston, but I'm not even an APA member anymore... which means it's well beyond my means.
I don't know. It's in the budget but the first time I asked The Man, he laughed. I'll hit him up again today while we're golfing. I've never been to Boston...in the spring time. I should write a song....Oh wait, it's been done.
I will not go on my dime.

BOC has stripped ALL travel & training. If you need credits for certifications, those requests must be approved individually with no out of state travel permitted.
So to answer your question...Not gonna happen.

I hate the no out of state travel rules (we have them too), its closer and cheaper for us to go out of state in some instances but we can't because of the 'perception'. Had to get special approval to go to DC for a conference even though the cost was cheaper than going to somewhere in-state.

does the amout of $,$$$ reach the IRS threshold to be itemized ?

I happen to have a couple packages coming my way... I don't think Mrs. Hink_Planner would view my leaving the State as a positive either right before, during, or after the delivery of the munchkins.

Yes but my APA chapter, not my employer, is paying for me to attend. PDO travel expenses were approved as part of the annual budget. I am interested in the PDO exchange and I heard of some volunteer opportunities with the AICP exam prep. I wrote my own workshop this past fall and am interested to see how others approach it. I might be bunking with a good friend from Houston (planner/landscape architect) to save on costs.

Within commuting distance but I'm not sure if the money will be there. I haven't been to one since the last time it was in Boston around 1999.
I'll be in Boston this year, but most likely not at the conference....I did go to the 1998 Boston APA conference and stayed with relatives in Revere,a short MBTA Rapid Transit ride to Boston. If you can go, go, Boston is a beautiful city, always changing, with Boston Common, Fenway Park, Cheers, Quincy Market, and 18,000 other things to do........best cheesesteak is in Revere at...........forgot the name, it will come to me...........and Dunkin Donuts is every three blocks...........
