CM credit for FEMA Independent Study

    IS-235.a Emergency Planning

I am going to e-mail APA AICP asking if this would count as a self reporting credit.
    from their course description:

This course offers training in the fundamentals of the emergency planning process, including the rationale behind planning.
Besides it is free and online.

Do you think they will accept this ?
    Oddball
Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
    From Kelly's Heroes (1970)

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

Don't know, but if you find out, could you post your findings?

Has anyone ever had similar requests turned down?

I don't think I need the hours this year. I have self reported hours before but it has been due to speaking engagements and not personal study.

I completed I-235 last year and found it dense but useful.

I think the AICP needs to be careful who it partners with and how many things they let receive credit.

However, you are bound to your ethics and in the end that should have your answer contained within it.

    Got an answer -
From the AICP Self Reporting Information Page.
To be eligible for CM credit, a professional development activity must meet the following criteria:

    1. Taught at a level that is appropriate for a typical AICP member (i.e., a planner with at least two years of professional experience).
    2. Meet a specific planning-related objective.
    3. Led by one or more subject matter experts.
    1. I believe yes - learning the requirements/content for an Emergency Operations Plan (EOP)
    2. Specific Plan process
    3. Not led - self study -
Distance education (i.e., asynchronous learning events, CD-ROMs, telecasts, podcasts) is not eligible for self-reporting.
    Lose on this last point.

Seems odd that APA podcasts/DVDs are eligible but others are not?

Examples include stuff from mailings and Tuesdays at APA.
