New Urbanist design ideals

Can someone recommend any books that would explain the practical details involved in designing a new urbanist community? For example- how wide should roads and sidewalks be? How much commercial space do you need based on the population you have? What is the ideal number of households/number of people? What’s the maximum walking distance to a bus stop for people that do not have cars?

Also look for Codifying New Urbanism, published in APA's PAS series (#526). It's a few years old now, but I still think it's rock solid.
