I hate seeing those best of the year lists without having had a fair chance to get to most of them beforehand. Please add a book from this year (2011) and what your thoughts are.
Triumph of the City - Edward Glaeser
I thought this was an awesome book that weaves plenty of economic history in to how cities were formed and why they still matter. Coming from an Economics background, I particularly enjoyed the rather logical arguments he made in support of his overall message. Glaeser's critique of Jane Jacobs is spot on and puts historic preservationists on blast for their bit in discouraging affordable housing.
