Has anyone ever worked as a disaster or emergency management planner? I'm considering a career change into disaster and environmental hazards planning. Any advice?
Thanks

Trying to get my grubby hands on as much stimulus money as I can.:D
I do it part time/volunteer.
What I have done:
Go through the CERT training.
Get all your NIMS certifications.
Take ARC Disaster Services Training.
Get trained on the NFIP Community Rating System (CRS)
Understand and participate in your LEPC.
Consider becoming a
Certified Emergency Manager (CEM)
Certified Flood Manager (CFM).

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

I have worked in a handful of communities post-disaster. From that perspective, there is a great deal that needs to be done to be prepared for the aftermath. On the business side, how do you get people re-established, and get them up and operating in the interim before a new building is up or repairs finished? How do you shelter people, and address the ones who will return to live in their homes or on their lots, in tents if they need to? Over the longer term there is always the tension between wanting to redevelop to some grand plan, versus those who simply want to rebuild quickly.
Anyone want to adopt a dog?
